The BEN Pitlochry Estate

As well as financial support, the Ben charity also operates the picturesque BEN Pitlochry Estate on the banks of the River Tay, consisting of 18 bungalows which are rented at subsidised rates for eligible residents.

To be considered the criteria is three years full time in the drinks and hospitality trade with a need for housing.

Make a Carer's Day!

When one of the properties at the Pitlochry Estate became vacant in 2015, The BEN Society decided to provide a self-catering property, exclusively for unpaid carers to access and benefit from via the Respitality project year round.

Because of this strong partnership between Respitality and The BEN Society, as of December 2018, 129 carers have benefitted from a week long stay in the Pitlochry property. Additionally, breaks donated by The BEN Society are estimated to be in the value of £44,600, based on industry prices for a self catering property in Perthshire.

A Chance to Recharge When Life is Hard Makes a Real Difference, Hear From Some of Our Carer's...

"I care for my son alone who has Asperger's and depression, I often feel isolated and have had some financial difficulties which makes taking a break and enjoying hobbies very difficult.

I had a fantastic time at Pitlochry Cottage and found the area very beautiful, it was so quiet and relaxing, and I was able to do some reading and walking in the surrounding area. I didn't cook at all and enjoyed the local takeaway!

I am feeling incredibly positive about all that is going on now and feel able to manage things better, the break came at exactly the right time and I was really able to enjoy my time away.

Once again thank you for making this possible."

“It was wonderful! It gave me time to relax and regroup my reserves after a tough caring year. I think we all need time to rest, reflect and recharge to do any job well and my break will make me a more effective carer.”

(carer from Highlands)

Carer really enjoyed the stay and said it was lovely to change the environment not only for her, but for her adult son. They managed to spend some quality time together in a different town and explore the local area. She said, "it was refreshing and very much needed, thank you."

Carer has caring responsibilities for an elderly auntie and when asked “how long did they feel the benefit of the break?”, carer shared that she felt the benefit straight away. She learnt to stop caring about the small things and started living her life again.
